Top Eleven Events Of September
For many, school is back in session and summer is beginning to wind down. There’s even a slight chill in the air. Here at Dig The Dunes, we found eleven events to help heat up your September!
1: September 1 – Labor Daze – Michigan City, IN
Sunday, September 1stwill be Burn ‘Em Brewings 4thannual Labor Daze event! They’ll be highlighting 5 bands, a ridiculous tap list w/ brand-new draft & bottle releases, cider, & local food.
Get your tickets in advance here or pay $15 at-the-door, music starts at 12 pm CST. ALL AGES WELCOME, kids 12 & under get in free.
There will be a ‘build-your-own instrument’ tent presented by Deep Fried Pickle Project Jug Band along w/ a few more activities for the kiddos!
2: September 4 – Beer Run – Michigan City, IN
It’s already time for our September Beer Run!
We will all meet at Arcadia (100 Washington, MC) and then we will take off over the bridge and run along Lake Shore Drive, through Fedders Alley and near the waterfront. Meet back at Arcadia for your Burn ‘Em beer and feel free to buy beer/wine/cocktails and dinner. If weather is nice we will hang out on the patio overlooking the harbor!

3: September 7 – 23rd Annual Harvest Festival – Berrien Springs, MI
Celebrating the vineyard’s harvest and the feelings that fall bring. This event is family friendly, enjoy dancing to live music, hayrides, farmer’s market, craft vendors, catered food, and the smell in the air of ripe grapes on the vine. It’s the perfect time to savor a glass of Sauvignon Blanc or Cabernet, or simply a fresh picked apple. Live music will play throughout the day. Bring the whole family and enjoy our outdoor seating or bring a blanket and lawn chair.
4: September 7 – Popcorn Fest – Valparaiso, IN
This long-standing tradition is always popping – fresher than ever after 40 years! The Valparaiso Popcorn Festival will be on September 7th! Fun activities for all ages include 250 arts and crafts booths, 40 food booths, kids games, two live music stages, and the nation’s first Popcorn Parade are all highlights of this incredible festival.
5: September 15 – Polish Heritage Festival – Friendship Botanic Gardens, Michigan City, IN
There will be a Polish-English Mass in the Symphony Garden at 10:30 am, with food and festivities running from 11:30 – 5:30 pm.
A selection of polish food and baked goods will be available as well as live entertainment, a beer garden, vendors and more.
$7 per person – 12 and under FREE!
6: September 18 – Glass Class at Anderson’s – Valparaiso, IN
The Dig the Dunes GLASS CLASS is headed to Anderson’s Winery
We are so excited to head to this beautiful winery for our extremely popular glass class.Create your own masterpiece with sand and trinkets like mermaids, fish, turtles, starfish, sand dollars and more! Seal your piece with a fast drying epoxy.
Your $45 ticket includes materials, instruction and one glass of wine. Food will be available at an additional cost. Space is limited so purchase your ticket in advance here.
Bring your own beach glass to make it authentic from the Lake Michigan shores, or use a selection of store-bought glass which is supplied.
7: September 21 –Indiana Dunes Apple Festival – Porter, IN
Celebrate autumn with the Indiana Dunes Apple Festival at Indiana Dunes National Park’s historic Bailly Homestead / Chellberg Farm. Fun is the theme of the weekend interleaved with the celebration of the all American Apple.
Enjoy lots of fall seasonal activities such as tractor-pulled hayrides, a Kid’s Corner with games and crafts, and even apple-chucking. Local musicians will provide continuous entertainment and the Northwest Indiana Storytellers will be spinning tales. Then help make cider using an apple press, learn how to cook apples for applesauce and apple butter, ferment apples into vinegar, make apple pomanders and discover dozens of other uses for apples. Free tasting of most of these products will be available. Or, purchase lunch or a snack from one of several food vendors and make a day of it.
8: September 22 – Bigfoot 5k Trail Run – Westville, IN
See if you can find Bigfoot as he or she roams the course on this Crazy Legs Series race. If you get a picture or video of Bigfoot with your phone show it to us at the end of the race. You will then be entered in a special raffle for a chance to win prizes. ALL RUNNERS WILL RECEIVE A WINTER HAT!!
The course can be muddy, wet or dry depending on weather. There will one creek crossing near the end of race. Come and enjoy getting dirty! Secure your spot and register ahead of time here.
9: September 28 – Dunes Dash – Ogden Dunes, IN
Join Save The Dunes for their second annual Dunes Dash! This one will take place in the morning. It will be a 5k course in Ogden Dunes, the home of our founder, Dorothy Buell!

10: September 29 – Bad Ass Women on a Boat, Emita II – Michigan City, IN
Fact – Women were truly the backbone of the dunes movement! Join Save the Dunes on the Emita II for a cruise along the lakeshore while listening to the untold stories of visionary women who committed their lives to the preservation of the Indiana dunes. Learn about our bad ass founder Dorothy R. Buell and her quest along with many other women to save the dunes. Enjoy wine and cheese while connecting with like-minded folks on this relaxing and educational journey.

11: September 29 – Mac & Cheese Fest – Michigan City, IN
Mac is Back and we are heading to the waterfront!
We are so excited to announce that we will be setting up in the lot along the harbor next to Arcadia. Gorgeous views of the marina, the lighthouse and the boats passing by.
