The sun is shining and birds are singing as we start to thaw out from the long winter. Check out Dig The Dunes first Beer Run of the season and other top events we found, all guaranteed to help put a spring in your step!  Mark your calendars now so you won’t miss out!

  1. April 3 – Dig the Dunes Beer Run, Michigan City, IN –
    Our beer runs are back! We are kicking off the season at Burn ‘Em Brewing with our run to Tryon Farm. You will have choices! You can walk/run to the entrance, turn around and head back for your beer (2 miles), run the short loop (about 3 miles), or take the full trail (about 3.75 miles). Runners and walkers welcome! Price includes run, beer & tip. Get your tickets in advance here. Cost will be $7 at the door.
  2. April 5 – Glass Class at LambStone Cellars, Valparaiso, IN –
    We are so excited to announce that ……Our famous GLASS CLASS is BACK!! Create your own masterpiece with glass and trinkets like mermaids, fish, turtles, starfish, sand dollars and more! Seal your piece with a fast drying epoxy. Bring your own beach glass to make it authentic from the Lake Michigan shores, or use a selection of store-bought glass which is supplied. Your $45 ticket includes materials, instruction and one glass of wine. Limited menu is available including charcuterie, cheese plate and flatbread. Instructor: Jenny Rusboldt. This is a 21+ event.   3. April 6-7- Spring Artisan Market, Three Oaks, MI –
    For two days, artists and makers of all kinds will fill Journeyman’s iconic event spaces for their annual Spring Artisan Market! Wander the old Featherbone Corset Factory with your favorite craft beverage in hand and meet some of the area’s most talented and dedicated creative professionals. From locally sourced gourmet and personal care items to handcrafted decor and jewelry—you’ll find plenty to admire and share. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Don’t miss this popular event!
  4. April 13- Downtown Maker Market, Michigan City, IN –
    Barker Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church will be co-hosting a Maker Market with Beach Bum Jewels at the historic Barker Hall downtown Michigan City at 6th and Franklin. All proceeds from the day will go to upkeep and maintenance of this beautiful building.The Church Thrift Shop will be open ALL DAY so stop in to get some great deals there too. There will also be concessions and a Bake Sale! Beach Bum Jewels will be holding 2 classes on the stage during the day. Use the links below to purchase your tickets.

  5. April 13- Friends of Indiana Dunes Plant Sale, Porter, IN –
    Purchase native species to improve your yard and garden at this annual plant sale sponsored by the Friends of Indiana Dunes, Inc. For more information about this program or other activities at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, contact the information desk at 219-395-1882 or check the park’s website here.
  6. April 13- Field Station Frog Find, Porter, IN –
    Join the Field Station for a fun, family afternoon foraging the Little Calumet trails in search of carefully hidden (ceramic) frogs. Each frog will be valued according to size. Find a whopper…$25. Find the teeny-tiny tree frog and you could bring home $500. A minimum of $2500 in cash rewards will be issued to lucky hunters. One reward per participant. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and there will be special events for young children. Enjoy the beautiful trails of Chelberg Farm located in the heart of the Indiana Dunes National Park. Don’t forget to order your custom Frog Find t-shirt before you check out.   7. April 14 – Which Mule Will Rule?, Michigan City, IN –
    There are Moscow Mules and Kentucky Mules, Spicy Mules, Lavender Mules. We’ve got Patrick’s Grille, Bartlett’s Fish Camp, Barker Pub and Matey’s back for another round to come up with the very best mule! And you get to be the judge! There will be 2 rounds and a final vote. Delicious appetizers supplied by Patrick’s Grille are included in your ticket. Space is limited! This event is 21 and over.   8. April 17 – Wire Wrapping at a Winery, Valparaiso, IN – AND April 24 – Wire Wrapping Workshop, Portage, IN –
    Join Angie and Danielle from Treasures by the Tide along Dig the Dunes for a beach glass wrapping class. Create a statement necklace embellished with wire wrapping and glass beads. And as a bonus, choose to make a matching pair of earrings or 4 ringed wine charms. Handpicked authentic Lake Michigan beach glass will be provided or bring your own!   9. April 27 – Environmental Party 2019, Michigan city, IN –
    Sponsored by Elle Salon, this unique evening will support the valiant efforts of Save The Dunes. Music & Co-mingling, Raffle & Silent Auction, Delicious Food and Wine created by Shady Creek’s famed Staff. Tickets include: A full pizza bar and automatic entry into a drawing for an Aveda gift basket valued at $250! Tickets are $25 and available for purchase through Eventbrite
  10. April 26- Colin Asher, author of “Never a Loverly So Real” Algren biography, Gary, IN – “Never a Lovely So Real” will be published in April. An instructor at City University of New York and 2015/2016 Fellow at the Leon Levy Center for Biography. Colin will speak at the Nelson Algren Museum of Miller Beach on Friday, April 26 at 7pm. Colin will reveal what the FBI has on Algren. $10.00 entrance, wine and 18th Street Brewery beer available for purchase.
  11. April 27- Manhattan At the Mansion, Michigan City, IN –
    Manhattan at the Mansion is an event you will not want to miss. Get ready for a night of music, wine, and a historic look at Manhattan making! Steve and Mary E., along with Zorn Brewery, The Brewery Lodge, and Barker Mansion Civic Center come together for Manhattan at the Mansion. The evening kicks off with a VIP “Michiana’s Best Manhattan” event in the newly renovated meeting spaces at Barker Mansion. Enjoy samples of the areas best Manhattan, hand-crafted by professional mixologists in the heart of Michigan City. General Admission gains you access to grand Barker Mansion of Michigan City. Included is a night of music, dancing, libations all served up in the beautiful Barker Mansion. Your ticket includes museum tours, music by Steve and Mary E., along with Michiana’s own Dan Moser and Manhattan’s own jazz pianist, David Lahm, and your first pour of Zorn beer or wine, in your customized “Manhattan at the Mansion” souvenir glass.
