There’s no place like…the dunes.

The beautiful sunset in Union Pier, MI

The beautiful sunset in Union Pier, MI

Last weekend I was able to attend the wedding of some dear friends in Union Pier, Michigan.

Normally, the drive to the wedding would not be so far. I’d hop on 12 and drive about 40 minutes east to arrive at their beautiful house. But this weekend was a little different. We were attending a family reunion in Virginia the day before. It was an important reunion for my daughter, so I knew I had to be there.

I also knew I had to be at this wedding.

Our drive included 12 full hours of stormy weather!

My family and I awoke at 4:30 am Saturday morning to start the drive home. Luckily the wedding was at 6:30 pm, so that gave us a little time. We knew it was going to be raining in Williamsburg, but had no idea it would rain the ENTIRE way home! My husband gripped the wheel and we started the drive. As time ticked away, I started to get nervous that we would never make it. Traffic was bad, more storms were approaching and we were getting tired. It was an early morning!

Finally, at about 5:30, we crossed the border into Indiana. As I looked ahead at where we were going in Michigan, I could see the sun begin to shine. I knew it would be a beautiful day for Elizabeth and Louis.

Unfortunately, time and traffic did not allow us to make it for the ceremony. However, one of the most talented photographers in the area, Ryan J. Bolger, was there to document it all. I was able to see the moments I missed and felt like I was there!

We made it just in time to toast the beautiful bride & groom, see a beautiful sunset, have a lovely dinner with close friends, and dance the night away under the stars. Everything was magical. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

That night as I lay my head down to sleep, I clicked my heels three times and said “there’s no place… like the dunes”…and when I awoke in the morning, I was home.

Congratulations, Elizabeth and Louis! I am honored to have been a part of your special day!

Back at the beach. I knew I was home!

I love the dunes as it makes me feel so good. I think it would be so wonderful to live near the dunes so I could see it everyday and I know that it won’t happen but only in my mind. I love your pictures that you post on Facebook. Thank you for all of those.
