Great things ahead at Dig the Dunes!

As 2015 comes to a close, many of us take the time to reflect on our past year and look ahead to things we would like to do in the future. Things that maybe we would like to do a little better, or just things that we would like to try for a first time. It’s a time to appreciate all that we have accomplished as well as a time to set new goals.

I am doing that individually as well as for Dig the Dunes! 2015 proved to be a great year, and I look forward to seeing what 2016 will hold.

I added some wonderful people to the Dig the Dunes team in 2015. Stephen Lehman has been an incredible help to me with his beautiful blogs about the area’s beaches. His goal is to bring you every beach from Whiting to Warren Dunes and he is almost there! Be sure to check the blogs often because throughout the seasons he will be updating his photos. In 2016, we will expand this section with more of the areas trails. We want you to utilize digthedunes.com whenever you are looking for a beach or a trail to hike.

Patty Kostro has started  “Geology of the Dunes“. You asked for it, and we brought it to you. Each month Patty will be teaching something new about the area. She’s already talked about the glaciers, shorelines and Lake Michigan. Patty’s enthusiasm about Geology can be found in each post she writes and this popular series will continue on through 2016.

Over the past month we have been fine-tuning the look of DigtheDunes.com. Izzy Endsley, who has helped us with t-shirt designs in the past, will be helping with an online store where we hope to sell everything from photo prints, to apparel, to jewelry and art by local artists.

We’ve also continued to grow our cool digs” directory, bringing you some of the area’s best locally owned restaurants, shops, fitness studios, galleries and more. Be sure to check this often, use it as a resource and invite those you think might be interested to join. Our directory listings and sponsors are what keeps dig the dunes afloat.

2015 was also a first year for events at Dig the Dunes. We had our first Art Show with Troybuilt Fitness as well as the Bike Scavenger Hunt with Michigan City Mainstreet Association. We plan to have many new events in 2016, including guided hikes, photography hikes, brewery tours and more!

Dig the Dunes is dedicated to bringing you the dunes each day, teaching you about them, sharing photos of them, and letting others know what an incredible area this is. We bring you the people, the places, the events and the beauty.

So as the sun sets on 2015, know that we will be working hard to continue giving you more of the area’s wonders. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as well as subscribe to our blog! You won’t want to miss a beat.

Keep diggin’ those dunes! ~ Eve
