Staying active keeps you young at heart!

Getting out and seeing the beauty of the dunes certainly helps me stay young at heart!

Last week I celebrated my birthday.

As each year goes by, I am getting older, wiser¬†and happier. It’s funny, because I don’t feel old inside.¬†Yes, the unknown aches and pains are there, the grey hair is growing in thicker than ever and I’m starting to notice more and more wrinkles each day. BUT, I laugh, because inside my head I sometimes still feel like a teenager. I am definitely still young at hear!

So what keeps me young? I like to think staying active. This includes running, hiking and getting out and staying social with local events, festivals and classes.

This week’s blog is highlighting a few really fun events coming up that will help all of you stay young at heart too!

Third Annual Oysterfest at Bartlett’s Gourmet Grill: (watch video from 2013)
May 24 from 1-4, Bartlett’s Gourmet Grill 131 E. Dunes Hwy. 12
This year Bartlett’s is¬†doing things a little differently. You can order oysters, lobster, shrimp or ribs. It’s held on their outside deck (enclosed porch if it’s raining) and features music by Johnny V and Paul from Mr. Blotto. There will be a special Burn’em cucumber pale ale on tap and I’ve heard rumors that this year they might have their first “Shuck Off” contest!
Tickets can be purchased here.

Jammin with Save the Dunes: (watch video from 2013)
June 6 from 5-11pm, Washington Park, Michigan City
This is one of Save the Dunes biggest fundraisers. This festival is about everything LOCAL. Bands include The UNIT, Crawpuppies, Junior and the Igniters and Dad Howitt. There will be a selection of craft beer as well as food vendors. Come out and support Save the Dunes while having a great time!
Tickets can be purchased here.

Brew at the Zoo 2014

Brew at the Zoo 2014

Brew at the Zoo:
June 13 from 6-9pm, Washington Park Zoo, Michigan City
This annual brew fest is held at the zoo. How much fun is it to try craft beer while hobnobbing with the animals? There is entertainment as well as VIP passes. Designated driver tickets can be purchased for just $15.
Tickets can be purchased here.

Troybuilt Fitness Classes:
Multiple dates, Troybuilt Fitness, 3440 Dunes Hwy. 12, Michigan City
Troy L. Ford, the owner of Troybuilt Fitness was our featured neighbor last week. Troy is always trying out new things and fun classes. Last week I was able to attend his first Pound and Pour class. He plans to do a¬†“Pound and Plate” class¬†on Wednesday, May 20th at 9am. Simulate drumming with weighted ripstix, rock out and then enjoy a Continental breakfast! It’s a great way to meet new people¬†and¬†stay fit. Tickets can be purchased here.

Troy offers fitness seminars, several different classes and teams up with others for fun events. Dig the Dunes hopes to plan a group bike ride with him later this summer!
