Snowy hike at Pinhook Bog, Upland Trail.
When people hear Pinhook Bog, they tend to think this trail is only ranger led. They are correct about the actual bog trail, but the upland trail is open to the public year round and it’s the perfect place to get out and get moving.
The trail is approximately 2 miles in length. A short .3 mile path leads to a loop which can be walked either way. It features both new and old growth of Beech & Maple trees. The sign at the trailhead explains how this trail leads to a moraine that was created when a large piece of ice broke off of a melting glacier approximately 15,000 years ago.
Pinhook Bog Upland Trail has several small hills and can be a little icy and slippery in spots during the winter/snowy months, but there was always a tree to grab on to for support. There are a couple bridges to cross, one that overlooks a portion of Pinhook Bog.
This is a nice little trail to walk on a snowy afternoon. There were fat tire bike trails and we think you could ski or snowshoe around it as well!
Pinhook Bog Trail and Upland Trail are located at 945 N. Wozniak Road in La Porte IN.
