Meet Sunny Billups!
For me, living snugged up to Lake Michigan is just about as good as it gets. I love the energy it provides. No matter what the season or the day, the beach will always wash up a new formation and a simple sunset has the ability to take your breath away.
I’m a work hard kind of person and living near the beach gives me that subtle and soft casual life style pushing me to make room for thoughts of relaxation when needed most. Of course, a glass of wine helps.
Most of my adult life I’ve lived on or near smaller inland lakes and I wholeheartedly believe Lake Michigan is one of our most sacred treasures on this earth and we who live in the area are most fortunate – we get to enjoy it!
` Sunny Billups
What brought you to the Dunes? My son had friends living in Michiana and he went to visit them and fell in love with the area. Our cabin was purchased in 2000.
How long have you lived here? Our cabin was purchased in 2000 as a second home. It became my primary home in 2014.
What is your favorite thing to do in the area? I love walking the beach especially with my dog Tucker. Watching my family at play and trying to skip stones with my grandson Sam. He always has more skips than me:) The sunsets are so awesome and every evening mother nature presents us with a different version.
Tell us a secret about the dunes. I don’t know if it’s a secret but I have been told that the Dunes are known as “The Hamptons of the Midwest”.
Give us your top three “hidden treasures” (restaurant/shop/trail/beach/event … really anything.)
• Antiquing in Harbor Country
• Duneland Beach Inn bar for Sunday night for burgers and wine. Yummy!
• The red Fox who lives behind our property and walks past the cabin almost everyday like he owns the “hood”.
What would you like to teach people about the dunes? I guess the overwhelming thought I have is to always cherish and respect our natural resources.
Anything else? My neighbors are so wonderful!
