Flynn Woods, a Chikaming Open Lands (COL) property, is just across the street from Robinson Woods. This property was acquired in 2014 and in fall 2016, a one loop trail was completed. The preserve is still under construction to improve public access and to create a natural rest area for cyclists (you can read more about this and see the conceptual plans for the area on the website below).
After I explored Robinson Woods, I crossed the street to Flynn Woods. As noted above, the area is still under construction. The trail can be easily identified if you pay attention but in late fall it was overgrown. I proceeded, cautious of where I tread on this rainy morning, using the white ribbons tied to the trees as my guide.
The trail is only a half-mile with mostly packed dirt but some grassy sections. There is a field on left as the trail begins and, further down, on left is a wetland area. On the west side of the property is the John Markley Drain, a wetland area that flows into neighboring Robinson Woods before eventually emptying into Lake Michigan. You will see this area as you wind back on the short loop.
With the future plans for this preserve to make it more accessible to the public it was neat to explore it in its completely natural state.
Check out Robinson Woods, which is right across the street, right here.
