Parade to raise funds and help eliminate homelessness

The third annual Homeward Bound Epic Cart/Wagon parade to highlight and raise funds to eliminate homelessness will be held September 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants are asked to come up with a theme and decorate themselves and their cart or wagon and parade from St. Paul Church and School. Those participating have two hours to decorate their carts or wagons. The parade step-off is at 11 a.m. heading North to the library and then south to 9th Street in Michigan City. Everyone is invite to join in the family fun. Refreshments will be provided.

In La Porte and Porter Counties, 12 organizations have helped 229 people get stabilized who were at risk of homelessness, housed 247 people that were homeless and helped 254 people attain employment between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017. Teams will have a pledge sheet inviting supporters to donate to specific organizations or can opt to have the funds divided among all organizations who are recipients. Last year, Catholic Charities used the funds raised to help those who were leaving Stepping Stone or Sandcastle shelters with first month’s rent.
