Meet Your Neighbors: Abigale Thayer

on
June 2, 2016

Meet Abigale Thayer! Abigale spent her early years in Beverly Shores and moved back because she has always been drawn to  the beaches and dunes. She is quoted as saying, “I love life with all of my being: my boys, my community, my job, my family. Each and every second is an opportunity to smile, to learn, to embrace the beauty that surrounds you.” Abigale is very active in the dunes and is currently working on the Uptown Fashion Affair, which will be held on June 17, and is one of the highlights of the summer in Michigan City.

What brought you to the dunes?
My family is here. I was blessed enough to spend the first few years of my life in Beverly Shores.

How long have you lived here?
Nearly my entire life. I have moved away a couple of times but couldn’t stand being away from our beaches (and family)

What is your favorite thing to do in the area?
I am fortunate to be able to do some of my favorite things on a daily basis: Working in and as an active part of our community in the Uptown Arts District, watching our sleepy town grow has been amazing. I enjoy anything that is the beach or the dunes, being outside and soaking in the sun. Watching my boys love these simple things as much as I do is really pretty awesome.

Tell us a secret about the dunes.
My secret, I suppose, would be the secrets the dunes tell. They are never the same, always changing with the wind, the weather, with time. There is such peace that comes with that.

Give us your top three “hidden treasures” (restaurant, shop, trail, beach, event…really anything!)

a) The awesome shopping, dining and art experiences that Michigan City has to offer. There are a million and one things to do and check out here!

b) The beaches and dunes… The sunrises and sunsets. Breathtaking. Every. Single. Day.

c) The people. We are truly a melting pot and it’s a beautiful thing. I have witnessed such dedication to making our area thrive over the last several years, it inspires me daily.

What would you like to teach people about the dunes?
People need to know that the dunes should be nurtured and cared for, to be mindful of them. Don’t litter, help preserve them, watch your step, breath them in.

Anything else?
There’s a ton going on this Summer, take part in it! Here are a few:

The First Friday Art Walks. From 5-8pm on the first Friday of every month our Uptown Arts District comes alive in a wonderful way!

Jammin’ with Save the Dunes… Music, beach, food & beer, AND a great cause!

The Uptown Fashion Affair is June 17th, this a real experience… Music, small bites, a full scale runway show. It’s the 5th year and sells out, don’t miss out!
