Fall is here and it’s time to get outside and enjoy the dunes before the colder weather comes in. October is great for apple picking, walking in the woods and maybe a little wine tasting. Here are some of our suggestions for a few mostly outdoor things to do this month. We’ve left out the Halloween activities because that needs to be a separate post!

October 8 – Music Under the Stars with Johnny V, Friendship Botanic Gardens in Michigan City, IN. Pack a blanket and a lawn chair and sit Ravinia style for a concert with Johnny V. Food and beverage options will be offered at the venue. Learn more here.

October 9 – New Buffalo Harvest and Wine Fest, New Buffalo, MI. Now it’s 15th year, the wine fest features a full day of wine, beer, food, artisan vendors and live music. It’s fun for the whole family on the shores of Lake Michigan. More details here.

The Barrel Aged Brew Fest is a Fundraiser for Islay’s Barrel

October 16 – Journeyman Barrel Aged Brew Fest, Three Oaks, MI. Journeyman Distillery’s annual Islay’s Barrel fundraiser, featuring barrel-aged beverages from dozens of local breweries, wineries, and mead/cideries in friendly competition for bragging rights and the coveted Golden Barrel trophy. 100% of ticket sales benefit Islay’s Barrel, a 501c3 nonprofit organization with a mission to extend summer enrichment opportunities to Southwest Michigan children. Get the scoop here.

October 17 – Yoga and Brunch at Trail Stop, Portage, IN. Join Dig the Dunes and Sandy Pause for a yoga class for all levels followed by mimosas and a light brunch on the outside patio (weather permitting). Class will be held indoors with a view of Lake Michigan and the surrounding dunes. Learn more here.
