Dig the Dunes to hold Plogging event in Michigan City
What is plogging? Per wikipedia, plogging is a combination of jogging and picking up litter. It started as an organized activity in Sweden in 2016 and has been spreading to other countries, recently the United States. Dig the Dunes has decided to team up with the Michigan City Parks Dept. to have an event in Michigan City! Plogging provides a great work out, because not only do you jog, but you bend and squat to pick up litter, allowing you to work many of your muscles!
When is it? Monday, July 9 at 6:00. Meet at Sunset Grille concession area in Michigan City to register. Ploggers will head out from there and can choose from a 2 mile course or a 3 mile course, or they can just go out on their own in search of litter and return with their bags in approximately 30 minutes.
Is there a cost? That’s totally up to you! Dig the Dunes has joined forces with the parks department and Burn Em Brewing to offer free parking, a reusable bag & gloves and a beer for $10. That cost also includes $1 donation to Save the Dunes. — or — Ploggers are welcome to just show up! (there will be a fee to park if you do not have a permit).
So what do you say folks? Should we get Michigan City on the map for caring about our parks and beaches, for being innovative and for having fun while doing it? We say yes!! Learn more and register here. Walkers welcome!
