Bingo! Let’s have some fun and raise money for the Miller Garden Club.
On Saturday, January 19, 2019, the Miller Garden Club, will hold their first Bingo for Benches fundraiser from 6 pm – 9:30 pm at the Marquette Park, Aquatorium, 6918 Oak Avenue, Gary, IN 46403. There will be wine, cheese, prizes, laughs and lots of winners. The event will begin at 6 pm with a half-hour of refreshments before getting serious about all things BINGO. Tell your friends, neighbors and family. Admission will be $20.00.
This year’s first fundraising event will honor the Miller Garden Club’s Officers who have passed away and benches will be permanently placed in and around Marquette Park for visitors’ sitting pleasure. The first five slabs for the benches have been ordered and paid for and will be placed at their identified locations within the park this spring. However, this fundraiser is to help pay for the five benches.
The benches will commemorate and honor the following deceased Miller Garden Club officers: Bob McAllister, President. He and his partner were on the first Garden Walk; Pete Riffle, Vice President, was responsible for the famous Riffle’s Farm and Gardens; Debbie Doer, Secretary, initiated the start of the Garden Club in Social Media; Bernie Bonk, Treasurer, was the creator of the first October Brats & Bulbs event; Tom Eaton, Secretary, showcased his garden on the Annual Garden Walk three times. These five officers were all serious gardeners and contributed and volunteered in all the events during their tenure as a Board Members and Officers. This is one of the many ways The Miller Garden Club wishes to acknowledge and commemorate all their efforts towards the success of today’s Miller Garden Club.
The Miller Garden Club meets the third Saturday of the month from March through October from 10 am until 11:30 am. The general meetings are open to the public and feature speakers of interest on subjects ranging from gardening to ecology to stewardship of our natural resources. Refreshments are served.
The Club’s mission is to provide gardening education on all levels; to protect native trees, plants and wildlife; and to beautify the Miller Beach Community in Gary, IN. The club is a 501c3 organization founded in 1998. The club members work tirelessly tending to gardens along the Lake Street Business district, the South Shore train station, the library, the Aquatorium and many, many other locations.
