Art Exhibit and Plein Air Outdoor Painting Event in Miller Beach

August 7, 2018

Feature photo: painting by Anne Corlett

Head to the Miller Beach Arts & Creative District for an exhibition of landscape paintings by artists, Anne Corlett, Royce Deans & Angela Mathias Saxon who all grew up along the southern shores of Lake Michigan. The exhibit runs from August 17 thru September 9 with the opening reception being held on Friday, August 17 from 6-9 pm at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts.

Also, on Saturday, August 25 a Plein Air event will be held. The Miller Beach Art & Creative District invites artists to participate in this first annual event, which will be a day of painting and drawing on locations in and around Miller Beach. After the plein air painting there will be a reception and public exhibition to show and sell the work created.

What is Plein Air? Plein-air painting refers to the technique of painting out-of-doors which was initiated by the French Impressionists in the mid-nineteenth century. The aim and challenge of pleinair painting is to “capture the moment”, working quickly to complete a painting in a fairly short period of time.
