Ten Beautiful and Breathtaking Shelf Ice Photos

on
January 24, 2018

Shelf Ice along Lake Michigan is one of the most majestic features in the dunes. This natural occurrence happens when waves crash and freeze and ice collects along the shore. Sometimes it looks as though the shelf ice goes out as far as the eye can see, giving you the sense that you are in Antarctica, but no, you are simply at home in the dunes!

We thought this blog would help you get warmed up for the Shelf Ice Brewfest, which takes place in Michigan City on February 17. We asked our followers to submit one photo each and we got tons! It was a very hard job to narrow it down to our top ten. Our winner, Lawrence Tellez, will receive a Shelf Ice Brewfest hat and scarf from previous years as well as the VIP gift from this year!

Have you gotten your tickets for the brewfest yet? If not, you can get them right here!
