A Spring Break Staycation in the Dunes

on
February 7, 2018

Trying to decide where to go for spring break? A little short on cash? Why not stay right here in Northwest Indiana or Southwest Michigan and have a staycation! There’s so much to do in the area, and sometimes with our busy schedules we don’t take the time to appreciate what’s right here in front of us.

Dig the Dunes chatted with Monica Gauthier, the owner/managing broker of North Star Properties. Monica manages over ten rental properties in Berrien and Laporte counties and is amazed at the fact that so many locals do not take advantage of this area.

“I have people coming from California and New York”, said Monica, “just to see our beautiful Lake Michigan and the dunes. They are amazed at the area once they get here.”

It’s no secret that Dig the Dunes believes our area is a hidden treasure. Just take a look at our trail list that is growing day by day. Whether you are a beginning hiker or experienced, there is something out here for everyone. And although the weather may not be ideal for sunbathing in the spring, it is certainly the perfect time to walk the shores without all the crowds.

If an outdoorsy staycation is not for you, Monica suggests hitting the wine trail instead.

“The amount of wineries and breweries that has grown in the area is pretty spectacular,” said Gauthier, “in the last five years the area has added brew busses, wine packages and now there is even an uber service in Michigan that caters to the wine tasters.”

There are also museums! We have some great art galleries in the Uptown Arts District in Michigan City as well as the Lubeznik Center for the Arts (which will actually have a Warhol exhibit this summer!). The Curious Kids Museum in St. Joe is great for the little ones, and the Porter County Museum is located inside the former Porter County Jail and Sheriff’s residence.

And there is no shortage of good spots to eat. Take a look at our favorites listed right in our Cool Digs Directory.

So next time you are searching the web for the perfect spring break spot, stop and look right in front of you. Monica suggests starting by browsing her website, www.NorthStarPropertiesofIn.com for both homes to rent and things to do.

“Many of the rentals only have a 2-3 night minimum and some are even giving $100 off if you rent for the full week” she said.

If you have any questions, she is happy to chat. Simply give her a call at 219-706-9139.
