Last weekend I had the pleasure of traveling with my family to Fairbury IL.

Fairbury is a small town of 4,ooo.  It is nestled amongst the corn fields, Fairbury is one hour east of Peoria, 2 hours south of Chicago, and 1 mile east of old route 66.

We walked down main street past the old city hall, and visited the new furniture store and the thriving thrift shops. My son Lukas went to the local barber for a hair cut. His barber shop has been located in a converted garage, since 1974. We then grabbed our bikes and rode to the Fairbury trail head, which is across the street from the Floyed and Mary swimming pool and Community Center.

The one mile paved trail had lovely views of cornfields, barns, and a sole wind turbine. Once we passed the high school track, we arrived at the bridge to Fugate Woods. here the trail became a winding dirt path following Indian Creek. I would recommend a mountain bike and bug spray for this path. And some snake repellent, if there is such a thing. There was a nice big corn snake right in the middle of the path. Luckily, neither of us ran over him.

All in a good day in Fairbury, IL!

Looking for more to do in Fairbury? The Fairbury Fair is August 19-23rd. Every Saturday night are dirt car stock car races at the Fairbury Speedway.
