Cool Runnings Slides into New Digs
Submitted by: Matt Cunningham
You may not know what to expect from a Jamaican restaurant.
Many of you fellow rambling gourmands have undoubtedly tried Jermaine Miller’s signature jerk chicken, curry goat and oxtail via his award winning food truck or his prior location adjacent to the 11thStreet South Shore stop. Whether you’ve had the authentic Jamaican fare before or even if you’re part of the uninitiated, there really is no better time to treat your taste buds to the cacophony of marvelousness served at Cool Runnings.
The new location, 501 Center Street Michigan City, has allowed for a menu expansion, increased staff, many of whom, like the owner, are from Jamaica—this is authentic food, folks—and, most importantly, the addition of booze for all you party people, but don’t get the wrong idea, Cool Runnings is for everyone.
Neighborhood families are flocking in, as are roughnecks from Weil-McClain and Blue Chip Casino employees too, many of which simply walk over from the casino’s boat location across Highway 12 to enjoy the unpretentious, food-first operation that plays reggae music nonstop. Trust me, it’s a good thing mon.
If you’re looking for exciting, straightforward fare, in a cool, relaxed setting, check out Cool Runnings.
Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, Michigan City, it’s Jamaican food time.
